2013 Mercedes G 63 AMG blower motor + regulator replacement (fault code 912F07)

Steps

01Disconnect the battery

Do this first. You're working inches from the fuse box and unplugging live connectors, including a 12V outlet. Don't skip it to save two minutes.

02Fold the cupholder down and slide the seat back

Fold the cupholder down and out of the way, and run the passenger seat all the way back. You'll be working down in the footwell and you want every inch of room you can get.

03Remove the top three T20 screws

Three T20 screws along the top edge of the trim panel — circled in the photo.

04Remove the bottom-left T20 screw

Same T20 bit, bottom-left. This screw is much longer than the top three. Put it somewhere separate so it goes back in the right hole — a long screw in a short hole will do damage.

05Lower the panel under the glove box

Carefully wiggle the panel down. It doesn't need to come all the way out — you just want enough room to get your hands in and reach the connectors behind it.

06Disconnect the 12V power

On the left-hand side. Press the white tab in and pull the connector apart.

07Disconnect the dome light

Twist the dome light to the left, then unplug the black connector behind it.

08Disconnect the vent sensor

Twist counter-clockwise and pull it straight out. It comes out easily — no tool needed.

09Locate the six T15 screws

With the panel out of the way the blower motor is right there, held in by six T15 screws (all six circled). Five are straightforward. The sixth is the one that makes this job annoying.

10Free the dome light wire from its bracket

Before you start on the screws, pop the dome light wire out of the plastic bracket holding it to the side. It's in your way otherwise.

11Do the five easy screws, then clear the fuse box wiring

Take out the five accessible screws first. For the last one, push the fuse box wiring gently aside — it moves more than you'd expect — and the screw is suddenly easy to reach.

12Hold the motor before the last screw comes out

⚠️ The blower motor is heavy and it will start dropping as that final screw backs out. Get a hand under it and support it while you finish unscrewing, or it lands in the footwell.

13Release the two wiring harnesses

Lay the motor down in the passenger footwell. There are two harnesses: one from the motor to the regulator, one from the regulator to the car. Undo both.

Each has a tiny black clip that has to be pushed down first — a flathead screwdriver does it easily, as shown. Do not force a harness out. If it isn't coming, the clip isn't fully depressed, and pulling harder damages the connector or the wiring behind it.

14Replace the motor and the regulator

The regulator is the module bolted to the blower motor housing — the one the 912F07 code is pointing at. Replace both while you're in here. The assembly comes out as one piece either way, and you don't want to do this job twice for the sake of one part.

15Reinstall in reverse

Everything goes back the way it came out. Two things to remember: the long screw belongs in the bottom-left hole, and reconnect the battery last. Then run the fan through every speed before you put the trim back on — much easier to fix a missed connector now than after reassembly.

Notes

My front blower stopped working entirely and the car threw fault code 912F07 — "The front blower motor regulator is faulty."

That code points at the regulator (the resistor module bolted to the blower motor housing), but the whole assembly has to come out either way, so I replaced the motor and the regulator together. About an hour start to finish.

There's nothing exotic here — it's trim panels and connectors, a T20 and a T15. The only two parts that will actually catch you out are the sixth blower screw hiding behind the fuse box wiring, and the fact that the motor drops on you the moment that last screw clears.

Part numbers, read off the labels on my own car:

  • Blower motor — A 463 830 19 60 (BEHR Y8562003)
  • Blower regulator / resistor — A 222 906 03 01 (Bosch 1035900023 / F 011 500 107)

Check yours against the labels on the old parts before you order. Build dates and trims vary, and the label is right there once the panel is down.
